Fishing for salmon in Alaska sounds like a pretty poetic way to make a living when you are talking about it over dinner in Manhattan, but the reality includes freezing water, dark skies, dangerous conditions not to mention cramped living quarters. There is beauty in the hardship and on a good boat the work becomes a dance. Our director joined the crew on Pete’s vessel for a few days off the shore of Ugegik to make this short documentary. He filmed for 2 days and then worked with the crew for the remaining 5 until his helicopter came to get him. He left over the protests from the captain who asked him to stay on for the season.
